Brightlands Materials Center, Pregis, SABIC & GCR join efforts to develop qualified flexible circular packaging produced from post- consumer waste

The plastics industry requires collaborative efforts to reach recycling rates of 50% in 2025 and 55% in 2030 to build a more sustainable society

Brightlands Materials Center (BMC, Geleen, the Netherlands) a well-known innovation center, Pregis LLC (Heerlen, the Netherlands) a producer of inflated packaging films, SABIC (Geleen, the Netherlands) one of the world’s biggest petrochemicals firms and GCR, a producer and developer of sustainable plastic solutions, joined efforts in a collaborative project to develop qualified flexible circular packaging from post-consumer waste.

Key considerations of this project

  • Control and predictability of the recycled polymer behaviour is critical to ensure high performance results.
  • Involving the entire product value chain, from the material producer through product design and processing of the final output, is key to diagnosing the main drivers for optimal performance of recycled plastic.

Together with our partners, GCR is eager to contribute to building up scientific literature to better understand recycled polymer.
